Molecular Diagnostic Specialist for DNA Identification

The DNA Identification Building in Burlington, NC is seeking a Molecular Diagnostic Specialist. The Molecular Diagnostic Specialist helps to support the operations team, the quality team and the laboratory in various ways while also maintaining the laboratory equipment and their records.
As a Molecular Diagnostic Specialist, this role will help support the development and optimization of new and existing molecular diagnostic tests. Conducts routine to complex experimental procedures within overall scope of a research project and/or diagnostic test development project. Maintains all appropriate records regarding data collection and interpretation of results. Daily activities include scripting for automation, validation of equipment and consumables, general instrument repairs, and monitoring PMs. The MDS team is vital in constant lab streamlining and preventing down time in lab processing.
LabCorp's Consumer Genetics operation is one of the world's largest genotyping facilities, having genotyped millions of samples for SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) analysis since 2013. SNPs are single base changes in DNA that give rise to genetic variation. These variations can be used for ancestry typing, health and disease risk factors, carrier conditions, and curiosity testing!
The working schedule for this position will be:
Monday - Friday 2 pm - 10:
30 pm, 10% shift differential offered for 2nd shift .
Job Duties:


Conduct research on R&D related projects with limited oversight through the development process and assist in transferring improved products to the laboratory

Perform validations

Support operations by troubleshooting and optimizing assays

Coach and assist laboratory staff on newly developed procedures

Serve as first line of defense for resolving problems in the laboratory -- both hardware and assay specific issues

Perform/maintain schedules for preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment

Communicate hardware/reagent/consumable issues directly to manufacturers

Assist in programming laboratory automation

Make mechanical repairs to laboratory hardware

Assist quality team in resolving any laboratory problems

Maintain equipment records/logs
Requirements:


Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Life Science

1 year of clinical lab experience

Scripting and Programming experience a plus

Design and 3D Printing experience a plus

Research minded

Detail oriented

Ability to work independently and with a team
